CHiPS soup kitchen

Every Saturday from 9 to 10:30am parents and children ages 6+ set & decorate tables for lunch. Decorations, trays, silverware and cups are provided. Family volunteers are encouraged to bring cookies for 50+ people for dessert. Setting the tables should take about one hour. Located 4th Avenue near Sackett Street in Brooklyn, CHiPS is easily accessible by Subway (D, N, R to Union Street).

Masbia Soup Kitchen

Every Sunday in Queens and Flatbush Gardens, Masbia serves hundreds of meals to those in need.

Children 12+ may participate with a parent by preparing and serving meals. Please follow the link below to become a volunteer.

Every Sunday from 8:30 to 11:30am parents with children ages 8+ help butter bread, assist in the kitchen, clean food prep stations, prepare lunch pages and chop vegetables.

Every Sunday from 11:30 - 3:15pm families with children ages 14+ serve meals to guests, clear trays, clean up and interact with the guests. Located on West 15th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues in Manhattan, Xavier Mission is easily accessible by 1, 2, 3, F, L and M Subway stations to 14th Street.

On the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Saturday of every month from 8 - 10 AM parents and children ages 7+ prepare and distribute bags of food. Located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn at 360 Schermerhorn Street, Recover House is easily accessible by 2,3,4 and 5 Subways to Nevins Street, and B,Q,D,N,R to Atlantic Ave/Barclays Center.

On the 2nd Saturday of each month, parents with children ages 8+ will spend the first part of the morning setting up tables, stocking food and clothing, and bagging vegetables and bread. During food distribution, volunteers are assigned to a food group table where they assist guests as they shop for those particular food items. Volunteers may also assist with line procedures, registration, and clothing distribution. Located on West 15th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues in Manhattan, Xavier Mission is easily accessible by 1, 2, 3, F, L and M Subway stations to 14th Street.

Every Sunday from 8:30 - 11:00 AM, families with children ages 8+ sort and distribute clothing donations. On distribution days (the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month), the shift begins with preparing the clothing room for service and continues with the distribution of clothing to guests. On non-distribution days, the entire shift is devoted to sorting through the donations that have come in during the week.

Family Visit Programs

Every Saturday, from 1:00 - 3:00pm, parents with children ages 16+ can play bingo or help residents with basic technology (email, browsing the web). Located in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, the hospital is accessible by N train to 59th Street and there is free onsite parking.

NYU Lutheran Hospital requires an application for all volunteers. Please download and complete the form and
bring it with you when you come to volunteer.
