Covid-19 Volunteer Opportunities

CHiPS Soup Kitchen serves as many as 350 meals daily by a group of dedicated volunteers who come together to ensure hungry neighbors have a place to turn for delicious, healthy meals.

Although the CHiPS Soup Kitchen is temporarily closed, they have a one-stop community Pop-Up operating out of CHiPS for anyone looking to donate or receive food.

  1. The Pop-Up at CHiPS: In lieu of our typical soup kitchen operation, we are accepting donations of pre-individually-packaged meals, either home-cooked or ordered from restaurants, to be redistributed to our hungry visitors in to-go bags. We also accept individually packaged snacks and drinks such as water bottles or juice boxes. The program has been a huge success, and with the help of organizations like ReThinkFood NYC and City Harvest, we hand out more meals than ever before-- about 400-500 a day. We accept meal donations between 9am-4pm. If possible, we ask participants to email us a few days in advance at admin@chipsonline.org so we can add them to the schedule and know what is coming. Anyone can participate, we just ask that they refrain for now if they or a member of their household is sick. And of course we ask that they use proper safety protocol (social distancing, face mask, etc) when they stop by to drop off the donation!

  2. Online or Check Donations: Spring is typically an events-packed season of fundraising for CHiPS, but we've obviously had to cancel all upcoming fundraisers. These events help us to raise money to cover our annual operating expenses and employee salaries, so we would also appreciate any and all donations made either online or via check! The link to donate is here:  https://give.chipsonline.org/give/181349/#!/donation/checkout. Checks can be made out to

GOD’S LOVE WE DELIVER cooks and home-delivers nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves as well as providing ongoing nutrition assessment and education. Here’s how you can help:

  • Sign up for a volunteer shift. We need extra volunteers in all departments, but especially van assistants to help with deliveries, and individuals doing meal prep in the kitchen, and packing meals for client deliveries.

  • Donate to sponsor our shelf-stable meal bags. The bag, at $54 each, contains enough shelf-stable food components for one week of nutrition. These components include tuna fish, applesauce, beans, peanut butter and more.

CITY HARVEST has been feeding hungry New Yorkers since 1982 and is currently the largest food rescue organization. At this time, volunteers are needed to help pre-pack produce and pantry packs for easy distribution by our partner agencies and at our Mobile Markets. Use this Volunteer Portal to sign up.
